Dr. Guy Watts is a graduate of the University of Western Australia where he attained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and a subsequent Post Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy; the latter inspired by a love of Plastic Surgery. In his final thesis paper, he outlined the significant role played by angiosomes; a basis of understanding principally in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.
On the road to becoming a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Watts successfully completed Basic Surgery training, a four-year course in Perth which was followed by admission to Advanced Surgical Training. In Australia, there is just one program for Specialist Surgeon Training recognised by the government-The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Dr. Watts is also a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) which only allows membership to Specialist Plastic Surgeons.
In 2010, Dr. Watts successfully completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship exam. He was awarded in his final year for best paper in Cosmetic Surgery in the Australian Johnson and Johnson Cosmetic Surgery Awards.
Dr. Watts’s professional development continued with an extended four years training in a variety of globally-acclaimed plastic surgery centres. In these four years, Dr. Watts undertook a subspecialty fellowship in Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. This type of surgery involves correcting congenital and traumatic facial, skull, nasal and eye defects.
During this time, he worked at two children’s hospitals, The Mater and Royal hospitals in Brisbane, Australia, followed by Toronto, Canada in his second year where he was based at the Hospital for sick children.
Dr Watts’s skills and experience continued to develop with another award-Lindsay Research Prize-a reward for Best Research paper. In addition, he was also involved in surgical missions in Africa and China, as a continuation of his training in Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Watts then received an invitation to Manhattan, New York where he worked with top surgeons in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery to sharpen the skills he had acquired over the years of specialist training. During this time he learned the newest techniques and practices in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Watts worked with the top plastic surgeons in Manhattan, while at the Lennox Hill Hospital and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr.
Watts’s mentors include Ophthalmologists and Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons which further developed his expertise in the best blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty practices and procedures available. While working in the United States, he became a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
While working in North America, Dr. Watts spent time at Specialist Plastic Surgery clinics in Miami, Alberta, Pennsylvania, California, Phoenix and Texas. He also went to the Marien hospital, in Stuttgart, Germany to further develop his expertise in rhinoplasty.
Upon his return to Australia, Dr. Watts was offered a fellowship in Brazil at its leading Cosmetic Surgery Centre, the Ivo Pitanguy Clinic, which he accepted. Brazil is well regarded for being home to some of the best surgeons in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, particularly relating to procedures involving the breasts and body.
With vast experience from his training and experience around the world in North America, Europe, Australia and South America, Dr. Watts has a solid foundation and the highest level of proficiency and skill in Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS). With over 17 years of training and experience at some of the world’s best Plastic Surgery centres, Dr. Watts has returned to Australia where he brings the most cutting edge techniques and procedures in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery to his clients at his practice in West Perth.
